I was prescribed Abilify today, but haven’t taken it yet because the pharmacy lost power. Normally I don’t have any side effects from drugs, at least any of the bad ones. I’ve never taken meds for my head before. I’m on Prilosec for GERD and I’m fine with that. I’m taking birth control and the only side effect I have are increased migraines. Should I expect little to no side effects with the Abilify? I’ve read all the horror stories about feeling sick and being up all night from vomiting – I’m a really, really squeemish person and hate vomiting or feeling like I have to so I’m nervous to take this drug. Does anyone know the percentage of people that actually experience these types of side effects?
Also, would it be better if I took it with food or none, and what time of day?
I’m worried about taking Abilify. How bad are the side effects?

I take Abilify in the mornings (like all my pills) with or without breakfast, it doesn’t make a difference. And after a month and a half I’ve had no noticeable side effects! Good luck!
I was on it for several months with no problems. But we should always read those enclosed micro-print warnings. These document % of users who quit due to side affects is very low. > 10%. It’s one way to help decide.
Dr/Rx should tell you about side effects, dosage instrs. Check the labels on the pill bottle too.
Every body’s physical chemistry is different
Good luck
I am a side effect magnet, and I didn’t have too many issues with Abilify. The first two weeks or so I felt like I had a cold. My body kept going back and forth between hot and sweaty and cold and shivering. I had some headaches and some carb cravings for a few weeks. I gained five pounds that just wouldn’t come off. But nothing remotely serious, and minus the five pounds the side effects went away extremely fast.
I never woke up vomiting with Abilify. I never had nausea with Abilify. This coming from the person who woke up puking due to Lexapro. You’re on Priolsec…that should help with any potential nausea, anyway.
One of the reasons that Abilify is so popular with both doctors and patients is that it’s mild side effect-wise. So I wouldn’t worry.
